America’s Stonehenge, located in
New Hampshire, is a big megalithic complex constructed over 4000 years ago. It
is about one hour drive from Boston. The site consists of stone walls, chambers
and standing stones that are aligned to the equinoxes and solstices.
Since 1994 Katja has been facilitating the Summer
Solstice Celebration, honoring the longest day of the year, at America’s
Stonehenge which has grown to having over two hundred people attending
from all different walks of life. Since 2001, Valerianna
Claff has joined Katja as a co-facilitator. Their joined
efforts have brought the rituals to a new height.
In a colorful procession, with song and drum, people are
lead through the ancient complex and arrive at the sunrise stone to engage in a
ritual that honors the sun and the earth. The rituals are eclectic,
participatory and are designed to respond to the needs that arise in today's
society.
The rituals we create are about doing deeper work for the
purpose of healing and transformation. The rituals are geared towards restoring
our relationship with ourselves, the earth, spirit and community. We seek for
ways in which we can bring people with different views and backgrounds
together. We are all affected by the sun’s position in the sky, we all live on
this earth and we all have ancestors, known or unknown. We provide a container
in which one can go deep. The outcome of the ritual depends on how much you put
in. It is about aligning your intention. Results vary from having instant
effect, to things being set in motion in the other world that slowly comes to
pass over time. For rituals to have an effect you have to show up in life and
let spirit know you mean business otherwise it becomes merely an interesting
exercise in getting a high.

2006
The intention of the 2006 ritual was focused on healing our
relationship with our ancestors. We created little effigies, stick dolls that
we worked with for the duration of the ritual. We focused on fostering a
personal relationship with our ancestors by speaking to them, washing,
decorating and feeding them. The food consisted out of staple grains
symbolizing the different continents. We placed them in a circle around the
center shrine where they sat in council with us. We let ourselves be inspired
by their messages. In the end they got placed in one of the ancient chambers.
